I just received an email letting me know that I have a QSL on eQSL verifying reception of a contact I had with another ham.

I'm very happy to have the report (pleased to know I was heard 9,800 km away on 15 watts). I want to make sure I take the right steps to verify the report and send my QSL.

I see that in my inbox there is a green button (confirm) and a red button (reject) next to this incoming QSL. My only concern is that the reception report appears to come from what seems to be a ham account, not one set up as SWL. I tried clicking on the call sign to see more about the account, but I just get an error saying "Sorry, but this user does not wish to receive unsolicited email."

So, if I click on the green button, will I have the opportunity to enter text clarifying that the QSL is confirming an SWL reception report, not a two-way QSO?

Hi,

If the eQSL displays "to K6FOD confirming SWL reception of...." then the account is configured as SWL.
Else, if you confirm the QSO with the green button, you give a fraudulous credit, even if you clarify the situation in the comment line which IMHO is rarely read to check eAwards applications, if ever....

Thanks, that seems very clear.

The top of the displayed card shows the sender's callsign-like identifier, name, address, grid locator, ITU and CQ zones, and information on their receiver.

On the bottom of the card, the first line of the text block reads, "To: K6FOD Confirming SWL reception of FT8 QSO." Then there is date, time, band and UR sigs. After that, there is a line that appears to be a comment from the sender, which includes the callsign of the ham I worked, followed by a greeting from the sender.

So it sounds like it fits your description, and that the account is configured as SWL. I'll go ahead and confirm it with the green button. Thanks for the help.

Hmm, when I click on the green button to confirm, a box opens with the text, "Create reciprocal eQSL for FT8 QSO."

Does this still seem consistent with an SWL QSL? I'm not verifying a two-way QSO.

Hi,
R3a-88 is a swl account, I checked it
Yes, it creates a reciprocal eQSL to a SWL, but not a two way QSO confirmation

I am glad I came across this thread. Starting to get more SWL's, now I know how to properly reply to them.
Thanks Again.

In the signal report, when I respond to an SWL report, I write in SWL instead of a numeric value.

There was a big Airline Radio in the house when I was a kid back in the 50's and i would listen to short wave broadcasts and HAM's also when i could for many years until I became HAM myself. in the late 70's I appreciate getting SWL's and of course I respond as i should. Since it is one way i erase the 599 in the report window and make a note of the SWL report in the comment. The other day i got a eQSL card from a HAM but marked in the middle as "Temporary SWL" which was fine. I have never sent any eQSL cards out as just SWL reception reports but i guess it could be done if properly noted ?..73.

I wonder how can a HAM user give out SWL reception reports correctly without involving fraudulent credits? Making new account using some suffix like 'BI1MHK/SWL', and setting it to SWL account?

Yes, to avoid confusion, a HAM should use a variant, like SWL/BI1MHK or BI1MHK/SWL...IMHO...

But most IMPORTANT OF ALL, when he creates a new account, there is a choice : licenced HAM or SWL

This is what really makes the difference, generates a SWL report on the eqsl instead of a 2 way qso confirmation

Tried and it worked. I created a separated SWL account in callsign BI1MHK/SWL and set it to a SWL account, and words on cards become "SWL reception". AG is under review.

Can we say that, HAMs should have HAM account(s) with their callsign and separated SWL account(s) if they wish to give out genuine SWL reception reports?
