For anyone wondering... I was notified when I logged in this morning that my membership was downgraded to "Regular membership" and my QSL card did not change...

Thanks David... My guess would be that it doesn't change, but you can't alter the style then. Hopefully the same QSL will go out to the people I work on the air. My logger uploads after each QSO.

You can set Winlog32 to upload to eQSL at the end of every QSO entry. LotW needs a few more button clicks... I upload it at the end of every radio session. As for QRZ.com, I don't know what it needs, but Winlog32 has several methods of exporting a file.

My paid membership will expire sometime this month. I planned on renewing it early next month so it will coincide every year with my ARRL dues. I know I will drop back to a regular membership for a short bit, but in the meantime, does the custom QSL card I designed (Style 2) go away? Will it reappear when I pay dues again? Or will I have to 'redesign it' all over again?

Go to the bottom of "My Profile" and on the bottom right is a large red box titled "Unsubscribe
Warning". The FAQ also lists an explanation that this is not necessary if you have merely changed callsigns... you can have two accounts and log into both. In that case, you merely change the callsign end date of the old callsign in your My Profile.

Sorry to see you go, if that's the case, but everyone has their preferences. Take care.

Try clicking on Standings next to it, then go back to the MyAwards page and reload the page. See if that doesn't change it. That's what I have to do to get the "buttons" updated.

Support - English speaking » New eQSL not showing up in Award Standings. Sep 9, 2010 01:55 PM (Total replies: 2)

I JUST figured out the answer to this before entering into the forums... Check your standings for the award and see that the station/credit is there; then the next time you look at (re-load) the awards page, it will display the proper numbers.

This is assuming that 9M2ZAK has AG status... because I think only contacts with AG stations count for awards.

There should be a link (depends on the choice of menu style you selected) That says "My eQSL Design". It produces a QSL with a "sample" QSO filled out.

Cheers!

Authenticity Guaranteed » Secure upload of license scan? Aug 25, 2010 12:24 PM (Total replies: 4)

Hi Dan,

You have an understandable concern. But, if you simply take a picture with a camera where it is legible... that is the same information as what is in the FCC databases and a picture is hardly going to reproduce a printable copy.

If someone wants to print out a "copy" of your license, they only need go to the FCC website or others and print a "reference copy". Physical possession of a printed paper license does not "confer authority".

http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/printAuth_amateur.jsp?licKey=766331

Sending in a copy or picture of the "original" license (printed on the special paper) to eQSL is just a way of showing "I'm that guy." The FCC only mails the "original" to the ham. And if someone gets a copy of that picture, the only place I know of that they can spoof being you is on eQSL... but they can't because you'd already be registered! Maybe just print over it "For eQSL use only: 08/25/2010" somewhere not covering vital info. Can't see how they can object to that! Just submit it and if there is a problem they will let you know. (Staff doesn't often peruse the forum for questions to answer, they get enough by e-mail. This is kind of user help here I think.)

Hope that allays your fears. You are not alone, it is a common fear in more than ham radio. When methods change technologically, people have to change with them. You are simply like Dr McCoy of Star Trek not liking to have his "molecules spread all over God's creation", when everyone else practically leaps into the transporter. I'm not making fun of you, just saying it is an understandable fear, just likely unwarranted.

And I'm not staff here, just a user. So I may be wrong.

I couldn't get it to work either when I signed up several weeks ago... (early july?) and I tried for several days. I ended up taking a closeup photo of my license and submitting it. In the long run, it was easier.

General web site suggestions » Multiple Cards Aug 14, 2010 01:36 AM (Total replies: 2)

OOs are ARRL positions and I would not imagine that they would approve of such. I'm not sure they even use e-mail must less an eQSL. Even if it is a good guy report. I got one once... they are just little post cards. But I will tell you if I had gotten an e-mail over a post card it would not have had as much impact.

And then there is the argument over checking legitimacy of the sender, etc.

Getting more eQSLs » Do not notify Aug 10, 2010 08:38 PM (Total replies: 2)

I believe that is a button to elecet to NOT have the system send them an e-mail and tell them they have a card waiting. If you do nothing, they get the e-mail.

As for getting few back, I think a lot of the problem is there seem to be a lot of guys who are signed up on QSL but have not logged in or uploaded a log in years. I find it helpful after I upload some QSOs to look through the list... the ones that are not greyed not (greyed out = non-member) I look at their profile and see when they logged in last. If it's been a long time, I kinda don't expect a QSL back.

I believe it has been removed by popular request. not sure where I read that though.

Yes, that is what I was told when I inquired... it has been replaced by "recommended contacts"; a list of eQSL active stations in a local needed for an award. You will find these when you look at your award standings for eDX100, eWAS or eZ40.

Getting more eQSLs » How to get more people to join EQSL??!! Aug 2, 2010 07:08 PM (Total replies: 43)

I would agree with many of Henk's comments... especially that the ARRL determines "entities" and whether a station/DXpedition was legal and counts toward the awards, etc. They provide many services and deal with many issues that most hams either do not know of or take for granted. eQSL may have been around longer than LOTW, but DXCC was around before eQSL. And it is DXCC that was founded on a 'fee' model in order to pay for it's services.

I would remind my friends that the ARRL is not in it for 'PROFIT'... it is a non-profit organization. Taking in money is not necessarily profit, it is FUNDING. It takes money to do many things in this world... Remember just because someone charges a fee does not make it evil! You pay a fee to enter a hamfest, but do you criticize the sponsoring club for charging it? No, because it is easy to see where the money goes... renting the space, prizes, etc.

Where I personally have a problem with money and QSLing is the DX stations that historically refuse to answer anything but direct mailed QSLs with money in them and then keep the money and reply via bureau. I am NOT talking about DX stations that have high postage costs and not being sent enough money to cover it. I am talking about the stations I have heard of that have paid for HOMES with the money they make off being rare DX and what some DXers have been willing to send them to get a coveted card. THAT practice has hopefully waned if not gone away and such stations cards should be banned from their cards being eligible for an award. Of course, proving that kind of thing is pretty much impossible.

With that said, something like eQSL being run on donations only and not requiring money for participation is credit to the founders and the volunteers that make it run. But it also means that the user must except the limitations of such a system. DXCC is also a system essentially run on donations... but they simply require set donations for certain services... they call it a 'fee'. Their system still has some volunteers, albeit in a different ratio.

What I am trying to suggest is, there is a place for BOTH. What I just wish is that the average ham would go back to seeing a QSL as the final courtesy of a QSO... whether that QSL be direct mail, bureau, LOTW or eQSL. The guy worked you, had a conversation with you or hopefully fulfilled whatever it was that YOU wanted to get out of the QSO... One of the things he wanted out of the QSO was a QSL to help with an award. Can't you lift a finger to return the favor of helping another person enjoy a hobby as they have helped you enjoy it?

Just boils down to 'do unto others', in my humble opinion.

And by the way, what is up with this "logbook" thing on QRZ.com??? Are they trying to enter the electronic confirmation game? Well, I tried fooling with it and the site ended up temporarily kicking me off saying that someone with my site activity level should get a premium membership (in other words PAY UP). No thank you... I deleted all the log entries (once I was allowed back on). That is back door arm twisting trickery... eQSl lets you know up front what you get 'for your money'... Not 'here try this' followed by 'you really should pay for it'. Forget it.

Go to Outbox... the link is at the bottom of the "logbook page" box. Says: "Download Log in ADIF format"

if you go to the archive, you only get confirmed QSOs... you have to go to your outbox.

The feature was removed by popular demand (my wording). The suggestion is to use "recommended contacts" instead. Seems reasonable to me.

I asked in another post, but no reply... I can't seem to find where anyone can MAKE a sked request. The little blurb that explains what skeds are tells you to go to My Awards page and click on the Requests hyperlink... I don't see any such link. Anyone tell me where it is/went?

Thanks,

Kevin, N4UFO

New member here... I checked out all the Sked requests... at the top in the explanation box, it says: "To set up your own Sked Requests, go to the My Awards page and click on the "Requests" hyperlink."

When I go to the My Awards page, I find no such link. Is it missing? Was it removed? Is it there and I'm just blind?

Thanks in advance,
