County Hunters » eQSL and USA-CA Jan 27, 2009 01:19 AM (Total replies: 2)

I'm very happy to see that eQSL has teamed up with CQ Magazine to supply contact award verifications for the magazine's various awards. However, I read the following section on the My Awards page about USA-CA and have several questions.

"In particular, if you are submitting a USA-CA award and have contacts with mobile stations who have not created a separate QTH account for each new location, this system will not work for you, because we do not attempt to machine-read the Comments to determine where the mobile station was located!"

Elsewhere, I recall seeing that all contacts must be Authenticity Guaranteed and the eQSL member needs to be at least at Bronze level of membership.

My questions:

1. This would seem to indicate that for me as a mobile, I need to establish one account for each unique county/state that I put out. While I'm only up to about 250 counties put out, for our friend N4CD who has put out all 3077 counties, that would mean that he would have to establish 3077 different accounts on eQSL. (In comparison, I would only have to do 250 as of now, with a new one for each new county I put out. :)

That is a lot of work for the mobile and is crazy. Aside from the work involved, is there space enough in the callsign field for a callsign and 3077 different identifiers that would be meaningful when viewed?

2. If each account has to be AG, that would seem like a lot of work for the eQSL volunteers to have to do to ensure that each account is AG.

3. Finally, if each account has to be at least Bronze (at the minimum of $5 per account), I would be over $1000 and N4CD would be up to $15,000! Speaking for myself, I have better things to do with $1000 (like get a K3). I would guess Bob would say his fee would buy a lot of gas for those counties he puts out.

Do I have all of this right? Or, is there something I'm missing?
