Wots the point of sending e-QSL's if you are not a AG Payed up member..
IF YOU CANNOT CLAIM Award's FOR THEM?? wots the point!!
IF YOU PRINT THEM OUT "THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE PAPER THEY ARE PRINTED ON"..
Is the world so bad you cannot afford a few "bucks" to be a payed up member..
I'am getting to the stage of not replying to NON payed up MENBERS..
Sri but if you are not a "payed up member" don't bother to send me a e-QSL Tu 73 es DXis vk3pa

Allen,
What do you mean by 'payed up member'? You don't have to pay anything to be AG on this site. If one can afford to donate to the site for it's upkeep, then that's a good thing. As you donate to the site, you get more priviliges. If one can't afford to donate then I guess that's OK too. I agree that some hams that use this service can probably afford to donate and can take the time to become AG. It's just a matter of where one's priorities or cares lie. But even a non-AG eQSL is better than none, because you can always send them a nice email requesting them to become AG.

well maybe iam wrong "but" i was under the inpression you had to be a "bronze" member at lest before you could claim any of the e-QSL Awards?? so that means a payed up member!! if not ,why bother sending e-QSL if you carn't claim a e-QSL Award!!

You know Allan, you may be right about the Bronze thing. I'm not sure about it at this point. Even if that may be, it's still fun to get and send the eQSLs. That's what it's really all about isn't it? You can always make your own Award certificate with MS Word and hang it on the wall. Some Hams have elected to '$ponsor' other hams on this site to help them.

Hi Allan,
Sure, anyone can print a certificate, but as you said it's not worth anything unless you've earned it. 'To thine own self be true' I only meant to say is you don't have to be a 'paid up' member to exchange eQSLs. It would be better if one was AG and could afford to support the site.

That's what I do John. I can't understand why more Hams don't avail themselves of this fine service. I'm trying to get some of the techs and new generals around here interested about the site and I think that as soon as they start DXing and getting on HF, they will see how enjoyable it is to send and get QSLs and how easy it is with eQSL. So let's spread the word!

You do NOT have to be a paid member to be AG. You only need to be a paid member if you, yourself, wish to get the eQSL awards or wish to use some of the other perks like using your own image to make a "card".

I am AG and upload to eQSL for the benefit of those who are interested in the eQSL awards even though I myself am not particularly interested in the awards sponsored by eQSL.

Occasionally I will print out one of the more unique cards to put in my (separate) eQSL album. I do not print out any of the cards where the user has used a stock image just ones where they have used an image they uploaded.

To quote Andy... "...But even a non-AG eQSL is better than none..."

A non-AG card is worth about as much as the "print your own award". What can I do with them? I don't get any kind of credit for them. So whats the point exactly?

What I would like to see is....if "I'M" AG certified, and someone sends me an eQSL, then "I" should get credit for it period since it was confirmed by both parties! If THEY are also AG certified, then they get credit for it as well too, but if they are NOT AG certified, then they aren't allowed to use it towards any award until they DO get certified, but I should be allowed to use it.

Maybe I,m not being clear. If getting a 'Certificate' from some 'Official' organization means a lot to someone, then by all means go for it. Trust me, I am trying my best to get one myself, either from eQSL or LOTW. However, I have a lot of paper QSLs that LOTW will except, but, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think eQSL has the means. I know which QSOs (I've made) were confirmed, because I talked to the Ham at the other end. If the contact was iffy, I don't log it. I don't try to fool myself or others by cheating. I know if I've actually made WAS or DXcc and ergo, I don't need an 'Official Certificate' to prove it. However, it would be nice.
I agree with Steve's statement above regarding AG eQSL credit. There was even a thread on this site last year or 2006 that advocated non-AG awards. As always my stand on this site is that:.....If you use it support it (if you can). Become AG if you can because it makes the eQSLs more valid. Encourage others to use it!

I am trying hard myself and am close to my DXCC, (not a big deal for some) and half way to eDX here, but I do enjoy getting the certificates. I agree with you also that I know who I worked and who I didn't and don't need an award to prove it, but I still like them.

Even though I may have a difference of opinion on how the AG/Non-AG process is handled...I will at least donate enough to keep a bronze membership for myself, and I will continue to upload all contacts I log. Maybe the rest will work itself out eventually.

There ya go Steve! It would be good if all had your outlook. Even though we are counted upon in times of disaster and it is then that we become 'Proffessional Amateurs', we don't want to loose sight of the fact that this is still a FUN hobby.

I agree with John-LJW, just keep sending them .... I think it takes awhile for folks to understand that it doesn't cost $$ anything to become AG just a wee bit of time and effort.

Of course we all get frustrated, I'm no exception, when the majority of cards rx'd are from non-AG but even a non-AG card is a 'confirmation' and it's good enough for me. Ok, so it may not count for any awards but like Steve & Andy pointed out we can't lose sight of the fun factor in this hobby of ours. I don't consider non-AG cards to be worthless, exactly the opposite in fact they're proof enough to me that the contact was made simple as that.

Personally I've been sitting, for what seems ages, at the 150ish (well 153 to be precise!) mark for my eDX300 mostly due to a high volume of non-AG confirmations but I'm philosophical enough about that and realise it'll take just a wee while more to reach the magic 300, hopefully, maybe, one of those days in the dim & distant future!(hi)

A wee bit of advertising for eQSL also helps, I think, such as stating on QRZ that eQSL is welcome or popping some info on your personal/club website(s) goes a small way in promoting this area.

Be nice if VP6DX were on eQSL !

Regards,
Martyn.

Remember, no matter what happens they can't hang you for it!

Well said Martyn!
It would sure be nice to get VP6DX on eQSL! I sent them an email and also mentioned it on their web site. I think they have over 1000 eQSLs waiting.

I'm not interested in awards. I use the log of eQSL as much as possible. HRD, N1MM works OK if you have a modern radio. I have a boat anchor with out tones or DTMF and I use my laptop for eQSO and Echolink.

I'm a new Ham, I just got licensed Feb 23, 2008. It seem Hams nowadays are interested in how many contacts they can get. What happen to the Rag Chewing Ham? I'm one of those Ham's that's cash strapped. House hold expenses get looked after first. Ham Radio is last on the list.

Don, that's why Ham Radio and eQSL is so great! Everyone has thier own taste and need. Some Hams like to rag-chew, some like to chase DX, some like contests or awards and others like to experiment or repair old radios. Get down on 80m or 40m and I'm sure you'll find rag-chewers or just casual contacts. Get on the WARC bands and there's no contesting allowed.
Welcome to Ham Radio and just have fun!
