What is the point of receiving an eQSL card from a non AG member? The card doesn't count for anything, so what is the point of having an option for allowing non confirmed members access to eQSL?

While it is nice to have an eQSL card in the inbox, since I am not able to use the card for contact confirmation I just don't quite see the reason for allowing it.

Am I missing something here?

Not everyone is into awards, some folks just want to get the acknowledgement of a contact. I am one of those, but I went and did AG for folks who want the awards.

I understand what you are saying, Raymond. I receive a lot of non AG eQSL. Sure, some people may enjoy getting a card, but for those of us that do enjoy chasing awards it may be more of a bother. We get a card from a location that we need, but since it doesn't count for anything unless that person obtains AG status it can be a bit frustrating.

It has actually gotten to the point where I am thinking about only confirming contacts from AG members and refusing cards from non AG members. Either that or just confirming via LoTW only.

Agree with you Jeff. Would be nice if we had an account option of only accepting eqsl from AG members. Maybe that would encourage folks to get AG for the benefit of those they are sending their eqsl to. I think what some people fail to understand is getting AG status is not for the benefit of the sender, but something thoughtful that is done to the benefit of the recipients of your eqsl.

Also, non AG members can become AG. I was surprised to find one morning that I had one more country that I didn't have before. It was because a member had decided to get authenticated.

In addition to non-AG becoming AG, there is value in knowing that both sides agree that the QSO happened.

For instance, if you are doing CQ DX Marathon, you submit one and only one QSO for a given country.

Well, there are pirates out there and it is hard to keep track of them all. If you take the trouble to notice which QSOs you get in here that match, and use them, you get a lot of certainty that the QSO you selected is going to be accepted when they tally up the count for the year. It would be very embarassing to lose your QSO with England or France (or, more likely FK, KH2 or some such) just because you didn't take the trouble to pick out the one you know worked.

Yes, I know you are supposed to be very sure about the QSOs you make for CQ Marathon. But, that still doesn't prevent you from mis-typing the call, working pirates, and other such things.
