In 1960, I got the SWL callsign WPE6DGG isued by Popular Electronics magazine. I know there were a lot issued and wonder if anyone else on here had that type of SWL call.

Wow John, that remark really jogged my mind. I was licenced in 1958 but remember doing a lot of SWLing and I did have an ISWL number and a Popular Electronics WPE2 - cant remembert the rest of the call.

Take care

I was (I guess still am?) VE7DX1EO (Dec/1970) and previously VE7PE1EO (Jan/1970). That was 37+ years ago! Still enjoy SWL and AM BCB dxing when ham bands have no dx.

Hi John,

I DX'ed a lot back in the late 60's on SW bands and I had the call WPE1HSC. Later it became
WDX1IFU and now it is KA1PPV since 1987. Those were the days. You know, when we had sunspots and good propagation.

Memories from a hundred years ago! I had WPE2MRL issued in 10/64, and even got a '20 States Verified' endorsement before my first ham call -- hi hi TNX es 73 de Bill

Oh the memories...I was issued WPE2OBU back in the 60's...then they ( POPULAR ELECTRONICS MAGAZINE ) changed it to WDX2OBU...Was an SWL for over 15 years...received approximately 3000 QSL cards ( which I still have ) , bunch of awards, which I also still have and was working on my 700 prefix endorsement for CQ magazine award ...

Now that I am recently licensed ( Feb. 2012 ) ...I get to start it all over again ...eQSL is a blessing ...

"Popular Communications", the sister magazine of CQ, used to issue SWL call letters and certificates around 1980. I was SXO1MRXV. A copy of my certificate can be found on Flickr:

I just found this topic. I was issued WPE8JHB in November 1966, and got my Novice license in May 1967 as WN8WQC. Have held various calls calls as an Amateur but will never forget those days in the 60s. Used a SX-25 receiver with a wire to a window screen. We lived on a hill and reception was good. I sent and exchanged qsl's with a lot of ham's on 80 and 40 Meters who became very good friends. In the 80's when I was working a lot of DX, I always made sure I sent QSL'S to confirm a report from an swl. Those were the days.
