After I upload, I edit only the eQSl in my outbox that I want to add a comment to. I use N3FJP's Amateur contact log 3.0 to upload my QSO's, but I haven't figured out which box to use that will upload as a comment in eQSL.

I wonder if you can actually add a comment field to your ADIF file before uploading

make sure that it is inserted before the end of record marker <eor>

I should try this and see if eQSL will recognise the comment and put it into the outgoing QSL comment field

Sorry I forgot to try - I will add a comment field on my next upload and let you know what happens.

I tried adding a comment

to two of my log entries and I uploaded the file without any error messages but when I went to look at the QSO in my Log/Outbox I found that the comment was missing.

So the comment field in your .adi file seems to be ignored by the system.

Thanks for post Mark.
It is a pity, and perhaps could be a suggestion for improvement of the system....

I looked at the adif spec and I see that there is a field QSLMSG . This might be the field that I need to fill in . Let me try this in the next day or so and see if it works. I will report back

Good news - I inserted the field

<QSLMSG:11>Tnx fer QSO

(where 11 is the number of characters inclding white space)

into my .adi field for several of my QSO's and uploaded the file today and hey presto it worked. I now have a the comment "Tnx fer QSO" appearing in my outgoing QSL card.

So if you want to add a comment field to your outgoing QSL you can use the QSLMSG field command to do that.

Here are a couple of lines from my .adi file to make it clear how it works. Note the use of the <eor> field at the end of each record (QSO). The QSLMSG field was not added to the VO2ZT QSO but it was added to the preceding 3 QSO's.

<call:5>VO2ZT <name:5>Steve <qso_date:8>20070903 <freq:5>3.793 <band:3>80M <mode:3>ssb <tx_pwr:4>1000 <time_on:4>0217 <time_off:4>0000 <rst_sent:2>57 <rst_rcvd:2>59 <eor>

<call:9>VP9/K3TRM <name:5>Frank <qso_date:8>20070903 <freq:5>3.786 <band:3>80M <mode:3>ssb <tx_pwr:4>1000 <time_on:4>0224 <time_off:4>0000 <rst_sent:2>57 <rst_rcvd:2>59 <QSLMSG:11>Tnx fer QSO <eor>

<call:5>I5REA <name:0> <qso_date:8>20070903 <freq:5>3.798 <band:3>80M <mode:3>ssb <tx_pwr:4>1000 <time_on:4>0240 <time_off:4>0000 <rst_sent:2>35 <rst_rcvd:2>45 <QSLMSG:11>Tnx fer QSO <eor>

<call:5>KE2WC <name:4>Mark <qso_date:8>20070903 <freq:5>3.781 <band:3>80M <mode:3>ssb <tx_pwr:4>1000 <time_on:4>0250 <time_off:4>0305 <rst_sent:2>35 <rst_rcvd:2>55 <QSLMSG:11>Tnx fer QSO <eor>

I have added a blank line between each QSO here for clarity but this isn't required in the actual .adi file

Thanks a lot Mark.
Cristal clear. I use a log (RADIOGES), whose adif is imported perfectly by the eQSL system.
However, in every QSO I can fill the following fields:

<CONTEST_ID:12>NAME CONTEST
<CALL:6>N1UK
<QSO_DATE:8>20070904
<TIME_ON:4>0758
<BAND:3>40M
<MODE:2>CW
<RST_SENT:3>599
<RST_RCVD:3>599
<STX:4>1212
<SRX:4>1212
<QSLSDATE:8>20080903
<QSL_RCVD:1>N
<QSL_SENT:1>Y
<GRIDSQUARE:6>IN82PU
<PFX:3>EA2
<CQZ:2>14
<ITUZ:2>37
<CONT:2>EU
<NAME:5>RUBEN
<COMMENT:14>WHATEVER COMMENT
<EOR>

As you see, hte only available field for comments is <COMMENT:14>WHATEVER COMMENT
Well, as it does not match with "QSLMSG", it is not imported by the system.

Of course, I can add manually the field "QSLMSG" to the adi file, but it is very painful, specially if you want to add different comments to each QSO.
Any idea of how to cheat the system and make it import my field <COMMENT:14>WHATEVER COMMENT into the "QSLMSG"?

Regards,
Iñaki

I think that here is going to be some editing unless you can program in C or some other language.

I would rename your .adi file as a .txt file and import it into excell. It would make the editing easier since you can insert an extra column and then add a comment. You can export the xcel file as a tab deliminated text file out.

Another way might be to take your adi file rename it to txt and use wordpad to do a replace of COMMENT with QSLMSG. You are going to have a problem with the length of the qsl message string. I have a way of calculating the messge string length in xcel if you can think of a way of doing it in excel.

Here's a thought - I export my databse logs as a xls file and then use an excel program to create the adif file. You could do the same. This will automatically create the correct qsl message syntax. It is an extra step but I could send you an excell template that would work for you.

Maybe you can ask the logging program designer to add the QSLMSG field for you

I e-mailed the writer of RadioGes and this is what he said - maybe you can translate but I get the impression that there is an upgrade that is compatible with the newer ADIF 2 specification - maybe he is saying that this will support the QSLMSG format - is he?

QSL Mark.

RadioGes usa ADIF 1 (now).

Proximamente RadioGes use (upgrade) a ADIF 2.

Los acentos se han suprimido intenciondamente.

Saludos.

Antonio-EA4YG.

Here is my original question............................did he answer it? We only learnt French at school.

Ola

I have a friend (EA2CTB) who is using RADIOGES. He is creating an ADIF file from his RADIOGES log and uploading this adi file to eQSL. He would like to be able to add a comment to his eQSL card. I have found that if you use the QSLMSG command then this will be entered into the outgoing eQSL card in the comment field.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add the option to output the QSLMSG field in the adif file that RADIOGES generates.

My friend tells me that this is the current list of adif fields that RADIOGES outputs at the present time:-

<CONTEST_ID:12>NAME CONTEST
<CALL:6>N1UK
<QSO_DATE:8>20070904
<TIME_ON:4>0758
<BAND:3>40M
<MODE:2>CW
<RST_SENT:3>599
<RST_RCVD:3>599
<STX:4>1212
<SRX:4>1212
<QSLSDATE:8>20080903
<QSL_RCVD:1>N
<QSL_SENT:1>Y
<GRIDSQUARE:6>IN82PU
<PFX:3>EA2
<CQZ:2>14
<ITUZ:2>37
<CONT:2>EU
<NAME:5>RUBEN
<COMMENT:14>WHATEVER COMMENT
<EOR>

Maybe you can add QSLMSG to this list

We have been discussing this on the eQSL forum

Hi Mark,
Thanks for asistance. Well, it is not too clear to be honest....
He says that "Radioges works with ADIF 1 nowadays, but there is a coming version working with ADIF 2." (I do not know if it will support the QSLMSG)
"The stresses have been eliminated on purpose" (no idea what it means...)
Let me contact EA4YG directly in Spanish, and see what I can get...
I will keep you posted.

Hi Inaki

He responded very quickly to my initial question. Maybe he wasn't able to translate my question?

Let's hope that the ADIF 2 version will support a QSLMSG. Let's hope some other software writers include that function as well.

Let me know what you find out

Hi Mark,
EA4YG came back to me immediately. Let me explains his answer:
1.- first of all, the sentence "The stresses have been eliminated on purpose" has nothing to do with the message. This is part of the signature of every email he sends, meaning that the "stresses on certain letters when writing" have not been written on purpose, because some times the email does not support the fonts with stresses. Well, he did not mention it, but I found it out.
2.- It seems that ADIF is not a well managed format. There is no a clear regulation, or at least a rationalization and standarization. I mean, that having a field for <COMMENT>, suddenly it was created a new one in version 2 with <QSLMSG>. Even version 2 will have another field <NOTES>. Basically all of them for the same thing.
So, software designers (like for instance eQSL) when importing ADIF, import certain fields, and if you have this field filled in, it is imported; otherwise it is not.
I mean, even when ADIF 2 is implemented in RADIOGES, there will be 3 fields where to write comments.
Anyway, knowing that <QSLMSG> is the one to fill in for eQSL, once EA4YG update the version or ADIF, we will have the chance to fill the correct field, and get it imported directly into eQSL.

Well, clear and understood, isn't it?

Hi Inaki,

Thanks for looking into this. Yes I see the COMMENTS, QSLMSG and NOTES fields. It looks like they are trying to cover everything with the new ADIF spec. At least we know that eQSL will recognise the QSLMSG field. I hope that the upgrade of RADIOGES will support this function. I wonder if other software writers will support this function too.
