I find that many contacts I make will not accept eqsl. I think eqsl is a great idea that eliminates many of the problems with Qsls. Like the expense of having cards printed. I send an eqsl to all of my new contacts. I know that some take advantage of direct email and green stamps. I can understamd why someone would want a direct card, but some of the Hams actually are upset about eqsl. Just trying to understand!!

Jason,
I think that some hams may dislike eQSL because the 'ARRL' does not recognize those QSLs as 'real' QSLs. Don't ask me why, maybe it's because the ARRL thinks eQSL is infringing on something that the ARRL thinks they should have sole possession of, even though eQSL was there long before LOTW. I use both because that way, I have more chance of confirming my QSOs. I like the fact that I can either print the eQSLs or save them to a file for doing a slide show on one of those electronic picture frames (they work quite nicely too). My confirmation rate from both systems is about 16%. Some do better some do worse. I just can't see spending money for postage and green stamps (don't even know what green stamps are). Good luck in your eQSLing!

I don't accept LOTW. It's not a matter of being snotty about ARRL and LOTW, I just can't be bothered installing more software that effectively does nothing useful for me.

I still send out paper cards via the bureau to pretty much every call I contact for the first time... but EVERY qso is uploaded to eQSL. But the reason has little to do with ham radio - I like getting stamps and post cards from everywhere. That they're QSL cards too is a bonus. I've noticed that some people actually include a post card with their QSL - something I really enjoy!

My confirmation rate on eQSL is about 2-3x the confirmation rate for paper. eQSL also provides a backup of my logs (which are all electronic, I can't be bothered keeping a paper book).

I send eQSLs as a courtesy. It has nothing to do with awards, either for me or the other operator. I think the old expression used to be something about the "final courtesy" that a QSL represented.

I enjoy receiving paper cards in the mail, and I answer everyone received, willingingly and happily, with a pre-printed QSL of my own. However, I tend not to initiate the exchange, unless the communication was very special or unusual.

I do initiate an eQSL, rarely missing acknowledging the QSO, routine or special.

I send eQSL's as a courtesy, but given the fraudulent identity proofing issues eQSL had at its startup, many Award programs do not accept them.

Thus, they are not very useful accept as clues as to QSO's that might have been entered into LOTW with slightly unmatched details.
