All eQSL members and county hunters:
Here is the latest that I know of the status of county-hunting and e-QSL.
An eCOUNTY award shows in your awards page but it is not active. We looked at options many years ago and decised not to implement the award yet. For it to be accurate, as many of you have already figured out, a member would need a separate account for EACH COUNTY HE/SHE ACTIVATED, 3077 IN TOTAL.
Most members are not willing to take the time to do this, and I can’t blame them.
However, it is interesting to note that the latest ARRL “Grid Chase” activity requires you to do exactly the same thing in the LOTW system. Do I hear or see complaints? Not yet.
I am willing to chat with any of you on e-mail about this or other topics that I can clarify for you.
Or if you have echolink capability, sent me an e-mail for a sked. My node is 861015.

Activity has been picking up and members do notice when a net is skipped, regardless of the reason.

I will provide the preamble and all necessary guidence.

Someone please step up and help us out.

OK, Everybody, here are the details on my latest attempt at setting up eQSL nets.

I plan to re-start the 20M SSB net on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 1900 UTC. Initial frequency will be 14.325 +/- QRM and the alternate is 14.250 also +/- QRM. I have had conversations with Mel, K4PPQ, in Florida who is willing to help out and he says there are some others on the east coast to lend a hand as well.

I also have a 40M SSB net in the planning stages. This net will be on Sundays also at 1900 UTC. No starting date has been set. I will have no propagation from WWA at that time, so someone else will have to step up on this one. It may turn into a regional net but time will tell.

Anyone who wishes to help Mel and I get these nets off the ground, please get in touch with me at k7ina@aol.com.

To those of you asking about an eQSL net, here is a brief review of attempts to date.

I operated a weekly net on 20M SSB each Saturday at 1800 UTC during last spring and early summer. It found some success but band conditions were very poor, my occupation in law enforcement prohibited me from being NC every week and requests for relief NC stations went 99% unheeded. Then there was the intentional interference from one of our members, David Tolassi, WA1BHV, who is well known by the FCC for his illegal operations and on-air threats against government officials. He harrassed me for several weeks while I tried to keep the net afloat, but I finally gave up before my buttons got pushed too far.

As of today, Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007, there is no eQSL net in operation that I am aware of. I am located on the Olympic Peninsula, Port Angeles, NW Washington State with a clear shot to all lower 48, Central, South America, Caribbean, AK / HI on the back and a short rotation to EU. The earlier experiments with a net showed everybody could copy me fine but most had great difficulty copying other stations.

When band conditions improve (your guess is as good as mine) and / or the intentional interference is minimized (can't always be totally removed), I will consider re-starting a net.
Until then, I tried my best. If someone else out there wants to give it a try, go for it. I will help as much as I can.

Perhaps a series of regional 40M nets during the low cycle years would find success.
Just a thought. Yes, I have 40M on the Force 12 Yagi!!!!

Hi Guys:

40M net would be good but I can almost guarantee that you will have only east coast, maybe some mid-west and maybe some EU, but 2200 UTC is out for us on the west coast.

But it might be something to try to get interest going. Band condx will improve!

Sorry Friends, no volunteers for NC Saturday Mar 03 so I have officially cancelled the net. I am still unavailable for Mar 10 but that one is still open for a volunteer.

Hi All:

We had a great net today (Saturday, Feb 24). The session lasted over an hour, 25 check-ins, 15 states represented, lots of questions, answers, calls and contacts made.

The highlight, at least to me, was that three new check-ins liked what they heard so much that they registered during the net session and began their careers as eQSL members.

How about that for a success story!

I am still actively seeking someone (or someoneS, plural) to take NC for the next two Saturdays. I will not be able to be NC until Mar 17th due to a combination of professional and personal responsibilities.

We are getting known as a weekly 20 meter SSB net and it would be a shame to go dark for two weeks after a day like today.

Hi All:

As it turns out I will not be available for NC duty on either March 3rd Or March 10th.
These things happen and that is why I need some of you to back me up on keeping this net going.

I will run the net tomorrow, Feb 24th and I will ask for volunteers for the next two Saturdays. If I get no takers, there will not be another net until at least March 17th.

OK Everybody - Here's your chance......

I CANNOT be NC on Saturday March 3rd. I will be in Seattle teaching at the police academy.

One volunteer has come forward from the east coast but I need another from the west coast.

We need to cover the whole US and then some.

Lets not let this slide down hill just because I can't be here every Saturday.

Hi Andy:
We missed you but those things happen.
Only 6 check-ins this week, but we were able to help K4PPQ get SC - they had to QSY to 40 but it got done, so I feel good about that.
Nets will continue weekly for now. I thought twice about bringing up the subject for discussion. On reflection, we need the exposure, so all you others out there that haven't tried the net yet, see you Saturday, Feb 24, 1800 UTC somewhere around 14.312 MHz.

No response so far to my request for some NC help.

So, unless I have some support by Thursday, Feb 15, I will make the eQSL net a monthly operation on the second Saturday of each month.

OK Everyone -

No volunteers came forward to help out with the net this Saturday so I have shut it down until at least Saturday, Feb 17th.

Look folks, lots of you wanted a net. Dave and the advisory board wanted a net. I volunteered to start the net and get it going, which I have done. It is unlikely that I will be available every week.

I, oh, sorry, WE need some help to keep this thing going.

If there is no support other than me, the net will fall back to a "once-a-month" operation until a support group can be established.

We have taken several large steps forward. Please don't let this slide backwards.

Talk to me.........

We need a volunteer for NC next Saturday, Feb 10. I will be on special assignment for the police department all that day.

The preamble and a list of previous checkins will be provided to whomever steps up to help out. If no one comes forward there will not be a net.

It's not that hard and really a lot of fun.

Something new this Saturday for the net - I will open a chat room for comments between members during the net session. I will announce which room at 1800 when I open the net.

So far we have had 7 net sessions, 50 different check-ins, 77 total check-ins, average of 11 check-ins per net. Many repeat check-ins so we have something going here!

So far only NA and Canada but I swing the 9 elements to EU and check anyway. Soon we will have our EU friends. The OMISS net has a regular in the Azores check in, same time just a different frequency so it is possible!

See you all Saturday, 03-Feb-2007, 1800 UTC, on or around 14.310. I try to find a clear frequency at about 1750 UTC to establish our frequency.

Greetings To All:

I finally made it home after all our snow storms.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that at 1800 tomorrow (Saturday) the North American QSO Party, phone version, kicks off. That usually means forget any net activity because there ain't any room.

But I will try to find a hole somewhere around 14.314, so if you can, look around for me.

No guarantees.

OK Everybody, here is the deal:

The snow finally stopped in Western Washington but not until 11" had been deposited. Most of our freeway system have been shut down and the outlying areas are completely impassable. High temps are only in the 20s thru the weekend so "warming" is in our dreams.

Ernest, N3TXH, has stepped forward to act as this week's NCS and I have provided him with a ck-in list and some guidelines for running the net.

There is a chance I will be home but it all depends on the road conditions Friday morning. If I think it is worth a chance I will make a break for home, some 75 miles northwest of Seattle. For now, Ernest will be NC.

OK, Friends, I need some help with this week's net.

Again Western Washington is getting pounded with high winds and heavy snow. I am 75 miles away from my HF QTH with virtually no hope of getting home for a week or more.

As of 0200 UTC Thursday, Jan 11, I have 5 inches of snow on the ground and still coming down HARD. The roads are impassable with temperatures below freezing and not expected to rise above that point for several days.

Here is your chance to help out - I NEED REPLACEMENT NCS FOR THIS SATURDAY, JAN 13.

Someone PLEASE step up to the plate and help out. We are having success with the net and I don't want to lose momentum.

Any help, e-mail me at <k7ina@aol.com> or <k7ina@arrl.net>.
