Happy New Year to everyone from Washington State:

For those who don't know me, I am a member of the Advisory Board and the Awards Manager.

There have been comments about having a "net" to not only publicize our service but to also help members make QSOs, get eQSLs and qualify for our awards programs.

I have volunteered to organize such a net operation.

This forum has been created to start a dialogue about such a net or any other activity we can create to help our members get eQSL cards.

So.......

Let's get started.

I encourage all interested members to post comments. Most days I will be able to check this forum several times a day.

Hi Ernie:

Thanks for your input.

I agree - a weekly net would be overkill at this point. My feeling is to try one pretty soon just to see what happens. Then maybe a net once or twice a month, depending on other SSB Contests. Having a net in accord with any eContests certainly makes sense as well.

Stay tuned - Something will be done fairly soon to see what happens. I am in the NW corner of WA so I can cover all US and have a good shot into EU as well if the propagation Gods are smiling.

Hi, Russ, HNY 2006,

as I wrote in the other spot, I am watching 20m here from SoCal and I found WD and TH to be the least "traffic" days and the QRGs least used 14240/50 and 14270/80, so far.
I hope that works with you up there, too, pse let me know.
If prop is right, I can work into EU-Russia from here until o3ooZ, G and EA until 0400Z, covering the US and VE quite well, too.
I am at 3600 feet with a straight shot towards Eu and AF.

Hans:

Do you see my post about possible net operations?

I am not sure I know how to post to this forum system.

Russ,
hi,
your message is right here!!
Why not the two of us try to find us on the band and check out OUR connectivity first. I usually do not have a prob with WA.
Other than that, once weekly trying for 8 weeks for a start does not seem to be undoable to me.....
If we do not show presence, a lot of the listeners only might not think our attempt is serious.

Hi Hans -

Thanks for your reply.

I am not at my HF QTH until later this week -

Please e-mail me your direct e-mail address so we don't tie up the forum with schedule stuff.

Mine is <k7ina@aol.com>

I should be QRV by Thursday or Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.

We can check our respective conditions and paths the report to the "waiting multitude".

Russ and Hans,

I would like to help out if needed. You can email me at my email on QRZ. I’m in the middle of the country, can run legal limit when necessary and have a 20 meter beam. I am a net control on a 75 meter net and have a little experience.

Russ,
you've got mail!

Lindy, welcome, off course. My email is my callsign on the ARRL net.
I have a tribander at 18ft right now, soon on a 45 ft tower and then will also be able to run 500 W.
But my qth is at 3600 asl, open from NW through SW downsloping take-off angle.
NNE through SW no obstruction for 40 through 50 miles.
I run our clubnet every three weeks....
Interesting name you got there.

I will be on 20 later on, calling around 14240/50 towards E, starting at 2300 UTC. Maybe you hear me with my 100W.

Roger,
about the cw net:
I do not know, we are just now trying to organize a phone net. There could be a cw net resulting, if the Phone Net works out alright.
My opinion:Why not!

Rich:

If you can join myself, K6FAF and some others around 14.250 at 0000 UTC Friday (Thursday afternoon) please do so. This will just be a test not a net per se, but of course anyone is welcome. There was enough interest to try something so we will do so.

As far as a CW net is concerned, I don't see why not. Again, if there is interest we can certainly work on organizing one on that mode as well.

Tim, if you want to try to listen I will turn my beam your direction as well and call for EU - sometimes we have prop from the West Coast that time of day. If you are awake that is!

Gunter,
I was on 14242 and I heard you while I was closing down, but lost you in the propagation.
Got into Texas and Louisiana, though. Had to close.
See you tomorrow!

Thanks, Russ! I'd sure like to try sometime, but Thursday/Friday is not so good for me as I have to get up pretty early to go to work! I have to admit, also, that my vertical antenna is probably not much good for phone to W7 land! I work mostly CW and Data on HF - though I've nothing against trying out some phone QSOs!

Good luck with the tests - sounds fun.

Hi fellas,

That's 7:00 PM Thursday evening (tonight) my time. I'm not usually in my shack at that time but I'll put it on my calendar. I should have good propagation to both you and Tim at that time though the quad can not be optimized for both of you at the same time. Maybe I can go half way inbetween and manage to hit both of you :-) Can put on a half gallon if need be.

Hi all,

I was late getting in from work Hans and heard you just as you signed, I called with the beam pointed to the EU and 100 watts. I heard you at 5-7 off the back! I think a station called me, then I heard a lot of QRN so I just shut-up. Anyway I think this will work so I'll be listening tonight.

Hi all,

Worked great and the band wasn't that hot. I heard a station in Washington at 5-7 on 14252 just before we made the connect Hans. I was also hearing several NJ and NY stations, so if its like last night I think we are looking good. The lowest I had you was 5-5 in QSB and hitting 5-9 a few times. THANKS for eQSL...LOL

Due to the dwindling sunspot cycle, I haven't been on 20M in several months. When I tried it yesterday afternoon I discovered that the 20M loop on my quad was not functioning. Probably Either a bad relay at the top of the tower or corroded connections. Looks like for me 20M is going to have to wait until next spring. The 15M loop seems OK but unfortunately the band is dead as a doornail, at least it was yesterday afternoon and now :-(

All Interested Members:

I am still in Seattle, 75 miles away from any HF gear and therefore not able to make any skeds until at least next Wednesday afternoon. If any of you want to make your own, feel free.

The soonest I could try some sort of a net would be Thursday the 12th or Saturday the 14th after 2100 UTC. That weekend is NAQP CW so the phone bands should be reasonably clear.

The old saying, "When you retire you are busier than ever" - Believe it.
