Martyn, great idea!
In fact there was no need to create something completely new, one just had to add a low-power-/QRP-category to the existing eAwards, like there is the ARRL's QRP-DXCC.
Well, worth mentioning the pwr-limit, since quite a lot of governments/ respective administrations seem to establish that 10W as common level for certain licenses, despite of the fact that the internationally agreed definition for QRP is 5W; guess they're not aiming at this. But that should only affect the naming of a future eAward, not jeopardize the idea...

Hi all,

"...has been temporaily discontinued ..."

so do you intend to bring it up again?
I also liked the idea of grid-awards, one could run them seperately for h.f., 6, ..

Doug,

I like the idea very much, see my similar suggestion for an eWAE.
Regarding the poor feedback, I'm not sure, whether the community thinks the same..

Hello Tim hello all,

any news from the board, any suggestions from the rest of the world?
It's been rather quiet here...

Hello all,

it's another topic, but I'm not sure where to post it correctly:
By now it happened twice to me that a sked-request has been answered by sending an eQSL with no qso before and that's not my understanding of working seriously on an award.
Is there an automatical routine running and checking the reject boxes for suspicious contents or have you ever been thinking of that?
eBay has a rating system, my email-provider offers spam-filtering and blacklists. I don't think that we really need things like that, but in cases of proven, frequent faking of log-entries & qsls may be at least the board should find a way to deal with such behaviour?

Tim,

glad that you like the idea, what about the way ahead?
Do you want me to check the DARC award-rules and provide a draft for the eWAE-rules i.a.w. the other award rules' layout or will you do it on your own? Guess some details of the award (levels, countries/ points to achieve) should be agreed by the community, I expected some more discussion on that here, so for that time I left these fields free. Suggest to keep that topic running for some more days to get others involved.

will you temporarily point the user's attraction on that by advising them after having logged in "there's 1 new item .. discussion on an eWAE .. see the forum!"

hello,

just to avoid this idea getting lost:

"..check of the existing database of registered users vs. last login-date, which could lead to an automatically generated reminder to log in & check the inbox/ news after a certain time.."

I've met a lot of eQSL-users on the bands the last days and frequently check the list of qsls waiting for them, that's why I still like the idea described above.
What do you think?

Hello all,

what do you think of an eWAE?
The original award is issued by the DARC, each EU-country is 1 point per band, there're different levels according to the number of countries (>40, 50, 60) & points (>100, 150, 200), WAE Top is 70 countries/ 300 pts, Trophy 72/360, ...
If you're interested in details, see www.darc.de/referate/dx/fgdd.htm
I think, for an eWAE two levels are enough like eWAE (50/150) and eWAE+ like the original "Top".
Could make a challenge for the US/CAN as working the WAS for EUs,
on the other hand a bit easier to achieve by EUs than WAS/ WAZ.

Ed,

I copied & pasted the main idea of our conversation to "general web site suggestions/ Please post any suggestions here" and added a 2nd question. Dave took action immediately -thanks!- and replied concerning my 'p.s.'. Guess we should keep the idea of the system generated reminder in mind; since you're the idea's originator, will you raise the issue again?
have a nice weekend, 73!

PS: 2nd question on the validity date of entries

experienced numerous replies, that the call is no longer active from, i.e. HB0, ZC4, OY, ...

when I search the country list & select a certain country, I see a list of eQSL-users.
Especially for islands, rare ones etc. there're a lot of even AG'ed entries belonging to an only temporary activation/ validity date. Is it possible, to mark permanent listings by * or similarily, figured out by checking the database, if the current date is prior to the "end-of-validity"date according to the user's profile info?

thanks,

Tom

Rich,
what I (& probably Ed) thought of/ as I understood the question, concerns the registered users, so no access to any external database is required.
At least I don't talk about notifications on single qsos, but a general check of the existing database of registered users vs. last login-date, which could lead to an automatically generated reminder to log in & check the inbox/ news after a certain time.
Individual reminders of that kind could be sent by each user via the mail-function by clicking the call, if one feels the need to do so. Might be, a prepared message text for that case helped.
Fully agree, that the problem to get a qsl from stations not using the eQSL, should be left to the single operators, eQSL can't provide that.
On that occasion thank you for your great service to the community,
I'm very happy with it! (and will donate again in the very next days )

-snip-
Is there a way to send out a reminder to everyone that hasn't picked up their card? I've done it individually and it takes forever. I noticed that after you upload your log, and the other user is initially notified, it won't let you notify them again. Thanks!

Ed,
happy new year to you & the users & board members who read here as well!,
guess the reminder everybody got by accessing eQSL the last days ('06 resolutions) made a good starting point.
Repeating that from time to time could help a bit. But it won't help in case of the numerous registered users, who simply don't log in anymore.
May be, a service message, generated by the system automatically to all who didn't log in for, say 6..8 weeks changed things. ... -snip-

sorry for pasting & copying from another topic, but guess it fits better to the headline now.

will add my suggestion from another discussion, to search a way for marking calls chosen from the country-list by using data from the profiles, whether they're still valid (i.e. for a sked-request) or belong to past activities.

hello all,

have to pick up the topic again: thanks for the suggestion!, in fact the idea to contact users chosen from the country list directly works much more efficiently. I'm up to 51 (#52 in the queue) now.

Is there a way by taking the relevant info from the user's profile yes, I know... to mark which calls are still valid or have been past activities (guess at least this is to figure out easily)

73!, Tom

ps: one sked-request turned out in a qsl for 30/17m-qsos yesterday at a time, when I've still been at the office; consequently the cards are in my reject box now. Additionally I dropped the om a line telling that that wasn't what I ment by the request..

May be, a service message, generated by the system automatically to all who didn't log in for, say 6..8 weeks changed things. On the other hand, possibly several users, who dislike this kind of "pressure", refused from using the service then.
Anyway, I appreciated it, since I guess, it helped to increase the qsl-return.
i.e., I'm also still waiting for cards for successful skeds arranged via eqsl..
by getting them and the expected/ unanswered others I was much closer to my eDX100
take care,
Tom

hello Roger, hello all!,
didn't participate the whole time, only for several hours,
ended up with some 85 qsos, abt 35x W/VE, one JA, 4X, A4, PZ5, PJ2, TF, CN, R1M ..
missed a lot of Carribean/ South American stations due to bearing of my attic loop.
Even by the end of the contest the more rare ones were still hard to get,
couldn't crack the pile-up for HC8, TZ, S9, 8Q, 9N, D4, VP5 .. with my 10W,
but got i.e. V2 & P4 prior to the test on 10/ 18 Mc
experienced the same, about half of them members, but -unfortunately- very few 'AG's.
nevertheless, 4X & SV set my counter up to 45, now, but still a long way to go..

hello all,
thanks for your remarks, especially for the idea of contacting others directly, may be that works more efficiently.
To avoid misunderstanding, of course, the percentage of confirmed eQSLs is much higher,
the .1% is the number of replied sked requests vs. number of addressed 'AG'-members.
WWDX did a great job for me, got some new ones, even if it's still hard work with 10W and attic wires...
see you soon, 73!

hello all,
I'm working on my eDX100 & with regularity experience frustrating reply-rates of less than .1%.
I understand that requests for rare ones can turn out as pain in the neck, but for countries with more than 100..200 "AG"-users I don't see the point.
Any idea, what could be done about that?
