Thanks for your help in the past with support for adding comment lines when a logger does not support it. It really makes eQSL a superior service. I noticed a news item that popped up when I logged in a few days ago but did not read it, thinking I could do so later. But I can't find a news section on the site. Is there one? Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, You can find a listing of all the news items that have appeared in 'Site News' at http://www.eqsl.cc/QSLCard/News.cfmIt's listed under 'Miscellaneous' in the right hand pane of the Home Page. Hope that helps. Tim, G4VXE

Is it possible to have news items appear only for the last (time-line basis) account a user has, rather than appear for each account?

Probably but I suspect there would be a performance impact of doing this that would slow down everyone's log on. Since, skipping the news items and resetting the last read time is only a matter of clicking the "Continue" button, I wouldn't personally vote for this change.

Hi Rich!
The implimentation might be easier on the system.
As once a user account has viewed a new News Item that News Item is flagged not to be shown again to that user account, it would seem that the scripting needed would be to pre-select older accounts from being shown News Item.
As log-ins already test for the condition of new News Items Shown/Not-Shown it may have no impact on user log-in times.

--- Original message by KB9GPN Steve Weinert on Nov 21, 2005 09:43 AM Steve, Possibly, we will have to let Dave be the judge of that since he is the one who has the intimate knowledge of the database schema and the software that drives it. But, honestly I don't see that there would be enough advantage to it to make it worth while spending any time on it. I have 8 accounts, two of which I access often so they are usually up to date with the news items. The other six are accessed less frequently and sometimes have a fair list of unread news items. However, since that access is infrequent and the time to fix it is inconsequential, I would rather that Dave spend his time on more pressing issues such as the multiple QTH problem which causes us no end of headaches. 73, Rich - W3ZJ

There are a lot of things that might be improved by a change in the way "attached" accounts are handled. When eQSL.cc was first started, we used the QRZ.com model, where each user was identified simply by his callsign. It was a few years down the road that we realized the flaws in this method of identification:
- Some people have multiple callsigns
- Some callsigns have multiple QTHes at different times
- Some callsigns have multiple owners
We are busy trying to make the necessary adjustments to accomodate all these complications, but it's a non-trivial task. The difficulties manifest themselves in the donations, the postage account, the eAwards, and other areas. Site News is a very small manifestation of the problem. But be assured that we are working on changes to continually improve the system, and eventually we will change the system so that you might log in with a UserName instead of a callsign, the ADIF log uploads might be automatically distributed into the correct account, and things will smooth out quite a bit. Of course, that's just my opinion... I could be wrong!

That sounds fantastic.
Expecting to have six to twelve activations and other "away" operations a year this effort is great news!
Many thanks!
