Your AG application is in the queue but it has not yet been approved. To check your status type your callsign into the box near the top of the left hand column and look yourself up. After your application is approve you will see the AG logo under the rest of your information.

When an eQSL is corrected and saved I believe it is re-posted as a new eQSL. If you have evidence that this is not the case please let us know.

eAward Suggestions » eWAE? Jul 9, 2013 06:39 PM (Total replies: 32)

Hi Stu,
Probably the reason you never received a reply is that Forums are for the discussion of issues, suggestions, questions and answers etc. All volunteers who provide various services to eQSL are members of the Advisory Board. So the first step is to apply for membership to the Advisory Board. There is a link in the left hand column of eQSL's main page under the heading, "Special Helpers" where you can do that. The application is a form that asks for some information abut yourself and how you think you might be of value to the board. In your case perhaps this is as an awards manager. Dave Morris reviews these applications from time to time and selects a few people to invite. Sometimes he may ask current members of the board if they have any objection to his choices but the final decision is his. In any case that's how to begin on the path to becoming an eQSL Volunteer.

Quote: I've just worked another station who has said "no eQSL" and I now begin to see why.

So, I'm following their lead, I'm going to delete my eQSL entry (before you ask, no, I never did sign up to LoTW anyway) which I signed up for before this AG system was implemented and I've railed against ever since.

Like I say, one less "G" station - so who cares? But I'll make sure I let anyone I work know that I am not prepared to use eQSL in the future, and I'll discourage anyone that I talk to from using eQSL as well.

I'm sure it won't make much difference to the eQSL global system, but at least I wont have to deal with the AG thing any more.

You miss the whole point of the Authenticity Guarantee. It has absolutely nothing to do with proving that you or anyone is licensed. Instead, it's all about identification of the person who created the eQSL account. eQSL could accept other forms of identification such as a drivers license or passport or other government issued ID. It's just that a ham license is something that every ham should have in his/her possession and is easily verified. In a few extenuating circumstances, passports and other forms of ID have been accepted. Consider, for example, a serviceman stationed in Iraq who wants to obtain the Authenticity Guarantee but didn't think to pack his ham license in his duffel bag. In such cases drivers licenses, military ID's and passports have been accepted as valid identification proving that the person who created the eQSL account is indeed the person he claims to be. That's what it is all about.

Quote: That's up to them. I'm not, so if AG status became madatory, as I say I would just not use eQSL anymore.

I realise one less 'G' is neither here nor there in the scheme of things, but I wonder how many of the 80% who are not AG would go through the rigmarole if it were made mandatory?

--- Original message by G0DJA David Ackrill on Dec 11, 2007 04:57 PM
What you say is true, it is up to each individual to make the decision to submit a license copy.

However, I am curious why you would choose to hide the evidence of your accomplishment in becoming a duly licensed radio operator and station owner? Many hams, including myself, are proud of our license and have it framed and proudly hung on our station wall for all to see. Years ago it was a requirement here in the US that we post our licensees in a clearly visible place near our station and I believe that still is a requirement for commercial stations.

Bye the way there are only three people authorized to view and approve licenses from the UK. One is our Webmaster who of course has access to everything and one is a countryman of yours, Tim Kirby G4VXE. The third person if you are interested is me. There are a couple of others who are authorized to approve licenses from other countries. Once your identity is verified and your AG approved a certificate that eQSL produces which shows just your name and callsign is made available for everyone to see but the general membership population will never see the copy of your license.

Quote: My reason for not applying for AG status is that only the UK radio authorities are entitled to request to see my licence, so I will only provide sight of it to a properly authorised person who has shown me proof of their authority.

I don't have to show it to anyone else and I don't ask anyone else to show me their licence either before I work them, after I work them or if I send or receive a QSL card, either an electronic one or a paper one.

If AG became mandatory, I would just not use eQSL, simple as that.

Is there a way to stop the 'You are not AG' messages being sent, or automatically reply that I'm not interested in becoming AG, please?

Dave (G0DJA)

Just for your information Dave, there are 1340 of your countrymen who have submitteed their licenses and have been approved for the Authenticity Guarantee. That'sjust from England, there are many more from the other UK countries.

Your points are well taken. eQSL is constantly striving to get more users Authenticity Guaranteed and the percentage has been slowly improving. At this time a little over 20% of members are AG. I think one can pretty safely assume that the other 80% are not interested in awards and maybe don't realize how much it means to those of us who are interested in awards. Everyone can help to educate the others by sending a courteous email to non AG members.

Rejecting eQSL's from non AG members is self destructive because as members do obtain the Authenticity Guarantee you will not receive the benefit of it for QSO's you have rejected.

So do you think that eQSL should blow off 80% of it's membership to make 20% happier? I'm no business expert but that doesn't sound like a very good business plan to me.

As a follow up to my post yesterday, the following is a description of actual events that have occurred in the past two days:

This morning I was greeted by a new eQSL in my Inbox from VP8SGK (for Sout Georgia Island). This would have been number 149 for my eDX100 but alas he was not AG. So, I send him a note worded approximately as follows:

"Dear VP8GSK,
Thank you very much for your eQSL from South Georgia Island. This is a new country for my for my eDX100 award. Unfortunately, you are not currently Authenticity Guaranteed and therefore your cards do not count toward eAwards. I, and I am sure many others, would greatly appreciate it if you would visit the Authenticity Guarantee section by clicking the AG Icon near the top of the right hand column on the main page after you log on and apply for the Authenticity Guarantee. Thanks again for your card.

73, Rich - W3ZJ"

Approximately two hours later I received a response from Mike saying that he had obtained the AG via LoTW. I checked my awards listing and sure enough, there was number 149 from South Georgia Island. I know that he just uploaded a log containing several thousand QSO's. Did you receive a card from him and reject it because he wasn't AG? Too bad, with a little patience and courtesy you could have had a new one today.

When someone volunteers to be net control.

Russ K7INA started it but sometimes has to work on the weekends and can't be there every week. He repeatedly asked for volunteers to help out but no one stepped up to the plate so he gave up. If you want a net, do something besides talk about it.

Russ, K7INA, is our usual net control. However, he is a police officer and sometimes has to work on the weekends. Thus, he can't always be available. He has asked repeatedly for volunteers to step up and take the net when he can't be there. So, far no one has volunteered. So, come on guys, if you think the net is important put a little effort into it and help make it happen every week.

Its just one of many incentives that are offered to the people who help support the day to day operation of eQSL.cc. See "Membership Info" in left hand column of most pages for a list of all the advantages that are offered to folks who help out with a small donation.

Hi Rira,
The only thing I know for sure about new awards is that the ePFX300 award is only days away. Logs are now being tested and there are just a couple of minor issues that need to be resoved before it becomes an official award.

Hopefully Dave will follow up on this.

However, eDX does require AG status. otherwise, I would have gotten it sooner than I did.

I find it rather curious that we still have members who don't seem to know that we have had a 20 meter net going every Saturday (with a couple of exceptions) ever since Nov 11, 2006. It has been announced each week here on this forum and on eQSL.cc site news every week. How are there members who don't get the word? What can we do to make it common knowledge?

73, Rich - W3ZJ

You want our server to send out over 100,000 private emails every time someone decides they want to do that? Would you like the sever to be completely overloaded for maybe 24 hours or so at the whim of any forum user? I don't think so :-) But feel free to post a forum message anytime you like.

Yes! I wasn't able to make it this week but Russ reported the following to the advisory board:

"The net lasted 30 minutes, with 14 check-ins. States representated were WA, WI, PA, IL, AZ, IN, OH, VA, AL, MT, TX, CA, and CO. Even had a mobile in Ottawa Canada join the fun. I tried but no propagation to EU. Some non-members checked in and they were given the web site and details of the system. Lots of contacts were made and we were able to help N9KEI get Montana for his e-WAS, leaving just UT and WY."

Sounds like it went well and hopefully the activity will continue to increase in the coming weeks.

eQSL accepts only modes that are present in the ADIF 2.0 specification. Members of the ADIF development committee are aware of QSONet but have yet to take any action on it. If and when they do provide a suitable mode name for such QSO's, eQSL will add it to the list. It will likely be added as a special Prop_Mode similar to EchoLink and IRLP.

In the meantime please *Do Not* submit any logs containing QSONet entries as it will hugely increase the time and effort for awards managers to sift through logs submitted for award credit.

LoTW doesn't have that problem because of its digital certificates.
</QUOTE>

Wouldn't it be sweet if eQSL could accept the same signed log files via email that we send to LoTW? Then we could prepare and submit ONE signed ADIF and just email it to both places.

I'm not saying that eQSL should *only* accept signed logs via email, but perhaps as an option. Thus, in the friendly rivalry between these two services (ahem) eQSL would be "beating LoTW at their own game" so to speak.

Hey, I use both services and think they're both great. And they both have advantages. But I'm all for reducing duplicated effort.

P

I don't know how many people use email to send their logs to LoTW, I certainly don't. With one click, my DXKeeper logging program builds an ADIF file, signs it with my digital certificate using TQSL and uploads it to LoTW. Uploads to eQSL can be accomplisted in the same way without the signing of course. Even better than that DXKeeper can be configured to upload QSO's to eQSL.CC in real time. I.E. You log it and it goes both to your local log and to eQSL.CC without requiring any other action on your part. Using email to submit logs would only add to the complexity of sending logs to either QSL service.
