Satellites » Logging Contacts on the Satellites Jul 19, 2006 09:39 PM (Total replies: 8)

Brock is 100% correct. We are trying to launch the satellite award but so many logs are not right. If you make a satellite contact, please use the correct mode of contact under the BAND column. If you work AO-51 in J mode, please put it in as that, not a 2 meter contact. This does not let the system put the contact in the correct place. If you select a Mode (J,B,L and so on) everything will come out right. Also, if you have satellite contacts already in the database, please make sure that they are correct. Thanks.

Satellites » Upload problem Mar 6, 2006 04:49 PM (Total replies: 7)

Roger, Dave is still working on getting everything sorted out. He has made some changes and just needs to tweak things. He is aware of the problem and I expect it will be sorted out as soon as he gets back in town and gets time to do so.

Satellites » Welcome Everyone. Jan 26, 2006 08:27 AM (Total replies: 5)

Robert, the easiest satellite to work these days is AO-51 which is an FM bird. Many people have worked this one with an HT and a hand held antenna. If you go to the AMSAT website, www.amsat.org, you will find a schedule for AO-51 and any information you may want for the other satellites.

eContest Suggestions » Qso Party Dec 6, 2005 05:31 PM (Total replies: 45)

Quote: So, are you saying that if a station is not an AG member of eQSL it's not worth spending one or two seconds to call him and say 59 73?
One or two seconds? As far as HF contest go, it takes us small stations way more then one or two seconds to make most contacts as most contest stations run way too much power and they cant hear the weak ones. If you come down to my level in VHF/UHF contesting, I work them no matter if they are registered or not. It all comes down to where your priorities are and as you can guess, mine are at 50 MHz and above. To each his own. If I were in an HF contest to compete then it would not matter if they were registered or not. People use contest in their own way for their own gain and raising my numbers with what little time I have is mine.

Hello, I agree with you Hans. I run every call through eQSL during a contest BEFORE I try to work them just to see if it is worth my time. It is in the spirit of compotition to be on top of any contest. If we put out another contest where the winner must have AG status this might be a nice tool to steer more people toward getting AG status. This could be a double edged knife but if announced well in advanced I think it could bump up the AG numbers. My two cents, you cant get rich from it but there it is.

eAward Suggestions » I think we need an eGrid award. Nov 19, 2005 12:02 PM (Total replies: 27)

Brock, I understand what you are saying, however, the trouble we have is getting people to get their AG status so the contact counts for the award. Myself, I have well over the needed contacts and cards but most of them do not have AG status, especially if you have multiple accounts and only one is authenticity guaranteed (hint hint). We plan on splitting up the satellite contacts from the "normal" ones to make it fair for everyone and the satellite awards will come soon after the VHF/UHF. We will get there.

eAward Suggestions » I think we need an eGrid award. Nov 17, 2005 02:16 PM (Total replies: 27)

Way cool fourm guys, nice job. Yes, I will agree on a VHF eGrid award and a UHF eGrid award for "standard" contacts. Do we break it down into separate band with no combining? I would just as soon break it down into single bands myself. I think the award chasers would like it better. As far as satellite is concerned, the VHF satellite award, I feel should be 100 grids and UHF should be 50 grids. Of the 25 grids I have confirmed on UHF, I think 20+- are satellite anyway. When P3E gets in the air late 2006/early 2007, 50 grids on UHF should not be that hard. I dont feel we should break the satellite awards down into bands, that could get messy.
