I think it would be a good idea , maybe it could help to validate Eqsl with some die hard holdouts for paper , and perhaps help to show some of the orginizations that Eqsl is here to stay and is a valid confirmation system

I like the idea a lot!
Make it a HUGE contest...the biggest/greatest in the world.
Not for 48 hours, but for a week or so.....
Put the date somewhere in my vacation-time season/hi...

Why not an "always on" contest so new users could get in the act?

What would be some of the categories? Must have something besides Single Op, Multi Op, etc.

An AG could be 3 points, an RM (regular member) 2 points. Also 4 points for Gold, 3 for Silver, 2 for Bronze and one point for other and non-members. So an exchange could go something like:
KA6CAA, please copy N1ORK Alpha Golf Sierra 59(9 if cw). Counted as 6 points (AG + Silver)

This all sounds like an great idea... Perhapts it sould be a little easyer to score. If we choose a format that is already supported by most contest software we could say " Use N1MM or other contest software in the "Field day" setting".... Any contest format could be used. That way the little guns coud use free software to score the contest and submit a log to the contest and to eQSL using the same database. Do we have anyone with contest scoring software and/or the experance to score this thing? I ran the Ohio QSO party for two years and the biggest problem was scoring the thing... I didn't have any software at the time to do it, so I did by hand... Took 3 weeks for only a hundred or so entries. I think a fall or spring time would bring in the most numbers, summer is just to busy! So... "Your 59 ohio AG".....

A contest sounds good and should be persued. However, I think we should initially concentrate on establishing a good eQSL net that Hams will become familiar with. If you read the eQSL net forum postings you will see that we even have trouble establishing that. I have tried to log into the net from my campsite in NH, but without luck. Better luck from my home QTH but not always there during the summer. Also with the summer here and vacations and all that, it's hard to keep a schedule. When I was able to check into the net, it's always usually the same people that check in. Therefore, it is hard to get the QSO/eQSL one needs for an eAward. Let's all concentrate on the net first and get that going and established before trying to tackle an eQSL contest.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have a GREAT IDEA ( I think) ...Why don't we let the powers to be ,who would be grading these contests, carry on with UPDATING,Verifying, and passing out eAWARDS for all those who are "trying" to achieve them...
Once again I think it is a great IDEA ...we definitely do not want to s-l-o-w down the wheels of progress.... now on the other hand; a free-for-all contest, with which you speak ,would be an appealing concept IF it was easily scored."Andy" has a nice scoring method.

How would we (the members) be able to readily score this contest with out pulling from the committees schedules? Hmmm..... Ideas??

Return Ham to eQSL Name Roger. How about 1 week in fall. Work each day for total. I like the scoring. Sounds fair. Any OP classes Low (QRP) or high power. CW,SSB or digital. I work mostly CW or digital. During the week day to stay away from the big contests. If publized rite, I think many many people would do it. It's not complicated, plenty of time. Maybe Boy Scout meeting at nite. Win-EQF sets up new contests. 1st annual eQSL contest. eQSL is much cheaper and faster by email. Then download your paper cpy of your contact. You can't beat that. Eqsl was here many many years before LogW. Check it out ( www.eQSL.cc ) Come join us in free membership and be a part of this process with Hams all over the world. I can't spell very gud for some reason. Anyway something like that. I believe you would promise a card. Pick-up at the web site. That's to get the people in to get their card and maybe come back later. After all this is a Mac Daddy web site. Running very well. I am back to DXing. Had Heart transplant almost 14 yrs ago. Last 2 yrs things are a changing. My rejection meds are turning against me and stay sick alot. No amunity to fight off sickness. I think I may be cremated with 2 of my rigs on chest and holding them. My wife went nuts. I'll quit rambling for no reason. My thoughts only on contest. 73, Roger, W4IV SE of Music City, Tn.

Sounds like fun. And maybe as a QSL manager, i will get time to go on holiday!
No more cards to sort, wonderful, i could even pick up my microphone occasionally.

First of all an eQSL contest, maybe run it once a month, is a really good idea IMHO, and once it catches on could provide good incentive to get people to join eQSL. Some good ideas on scoring have already been provided in this thread.

Second of all I notice this is an old thread, nothing has happened. I think one of the problems is it takes a lot of manpower to organise a contest, especially in the scoring aspect.

Here is an idea; instead of having separate logs for the contest why not just use the regular eQSL logs? After the contest is over all that would need to be done is write a simple program to pull out all the log data from all the users over the specific time the contest was run and tabulate the results. In other words all confirmed eQSL's received during the contest from all users would be scored. Would make it much easier from an admin point of view, and I realize that this site is run by a limited number of volunteers.

Mercifully, it never happened. IMO there are too many contests now. It's like amateur radio is turning into some kind of global competition, instead of an educational and public service hobby.

I'd be happy with an EQSL WAS net kinda like the 3905 CenturyNet or the OMISS net.

I need 8 more states and I have worked them several times but apparently they are not AG confirmed.

I think this is a great idea, it would certainly put eQSL.cc on the map.
Thanks
